Cities around the world have remained almost deserted as the coronavirus outbreak spreads
Cities around the world have remained almost deserted as the coronavirus outbreak spreads. Milan, Italy's financial heart, went into hibernation. Commercial activity and tourism are paralyzed, and people seem to understand and stay in homes.
A drone has captured previously unseen images of once crowded places in the Italian metropolis.
The Milan staircase, the Sforzesco Castle or the Brera Palace look like haunted places.
Moreover, the whole city smells of chlorine now, locals say. Almost all the blocks are disinfected with this substance.
According to statistics, by May Italy may lose 32 million tourists and 7.4 billion euros because of the coronavirus, but it has won something much more important: solidarity between people. Since the beginning of the crisis, five weeks ago, the Lombardy region has suffered the most. Most victims were registered here. The province of Milan is part of this region, but the situation seems to worsen in the last days.
