What Igor Dodon and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Moldovagaz discussed

The Republic of Moldova will further be supplied with natural gas, regardless of the situation between Ukraine and Russia. The insurance comes from the head of state, Igor Dodon and the chairman of the Board of Directors of "Moldovagaz", Vadim Ceban. The two also discussed the recent signing of the contract with Gazprom and the interconnection agreements with the Ukrainian operator, as well as the preparation of the alternative gas reverse route on the Transbalcan corridor, reports Moldova 1.

Vadim Ceban mentioned that among the major objectives was the initiation of the process of reorganization of the enterprises in the system. It is planned to create a single gas distribution company based on the 12 existing ones.

"At the end of the year, we managed, even on the 20th, to sign all the contracts with Gazprom for the extension. We also introduced the possibility to take gas from Isaccea, meaning the reverse is a lucrative one and at any time we can activate this route through Turkishstream. By the end of January, we will have the meeting of the Observatory Council and we are waiting for the Minister to come to Chisinau,” stated Vadim Ceban.

In turn, Igor Dodon welcomed the fact that despite all the impediments to the issue of gas transit through Ukraine, as well as the numerous speculations, all measures had been taken to ensure our country’s supply with natural gas in the future.

"Even if the problem between Ukraine and Russia is not resolved, in any case we have prepared the reverse and minimized all the risks, regardless of the situation that may arise with the transit with Ukraine. I am interested in prices, because we cannot afford this year or in the near future to come with the increase of gas tariffs for citizens,” mentioned the president Igor Dodon.

Russia and Ukraine have signed a package of documents ensuring the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine starting January 1, 2020. The price of Russian gas currently provided to the Republic of Moldova by the "Gazprom" concern is $173 per thousand cubic meters, lower than in 2019 by about $50.
